Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits he is
"dreading" his last ever match for the club at Anfield this weekend.
The 34-year-old, who has played 708 times in a Liverpool shirt, is
leaving the club this summer to join Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS.
Saturday's match with Crystal Palace will be his last home game and
Gerrard said they does not know how they will handle the occasion.
"I've been dreading it because I'll miss it a lot," they told
a press conference on Thursday.
"The plan is to try and keep it together and avoid the tears.
"I'm nice. Looking forward to it. I need to win and finish on a high
at Anfield.
"There's no getting away from it. It will be emotional. I am proud of
what I have achieved and all the great memories."
Gerrard said they desired to play a full role in picking up as lots of
points as feasible in the remaining games, with Liverpool sitting
fifth in the Premier League.
"I need to play every minute feasible. It is what I intend to do," they
said. "I need to say goodbye to everyone at Anfield, but need to be
involved against Stoke.
"I feel a bit sorry for my team-mates. I didn't need to take the
attention away from them. This weekend, it is only normal the
attention falls on me but I am sorry for that."
Gerrard has been tipped as a future Liverpool manager and said they
hoped to return to the club in some capacity day.
But the man who lifted the Champions League trophy in 2005 and who is
won FA Cups, League Cups and Europa Cup, said his
regret was not winning the Premier League.
But Gerrard, whose last game is away to Stoke, said they would not have
changed anything in his career.
"I dreamed of playing for this club as a boy and now I am 708
appearances down the line," they said.
"If somebody had said when I was one time going to the academy at eight years
elderly that you'll play 708 games and win the trophies, along
with the highs and lows, I'd have taken that.
"The supporters have been fabulous since day. I have had cruel
lows and fabulous highs. Their support has never changed in 17
years. That will be the most emotional goodbye."
